Social Media – Question 5

  1. Please create two tweets (For X) based on the Facebook posts in question #2. Explain what you did differently outline your planning criteria and justify your goal, reasoning, and key elements. Donโ€™t forget to include and your reasoning and goals for each. (10 X 2 = 20 marks)

Goals:

Our Twitter/X post would be to create an effective post that is catered to the Twitter/X audience.

Not all social media are the same, meaning that we must cater and modify our original posts because each platform has unique user consumption habits (Briscoe, Lecture, March 26, 2025).

Making high-quality content that is short and engaging to read.

We know from class discussions that people on social media have low attention spans, meaning they need to immediately understand what our content is about and be interested in it (Briscoe, Lecture, February 12, 2025).

Getting our audience on Twitter interested in Hoops for Homes and engaging/supporting their community by sharing the post with others. Getting our audience interested in Hoops for Homes can increase its shareability and spread our message amongst the community to increase interest, engagement, and support for the tournament.

Planning criteria:

When creating the Twitter/X posts, we made sure that our content was conveying and emulating the original objective of each of the Facebook posts with the use of similar images but slightly different content in order to make it both consistent and effective for Twitter/X users (Briscoe, Lecture, March 26, 2025).

Our reasoning for our changes is that Twitter/X is a different platform, and users have different behaviours and content consumption habits, which tend to be quick scrolling, meaning we must make an impression through the use of impactful photos and a headline that uses action words to gain their attention which we learned was effective from research into social media platforms (Briscoe, Lecture, March 26, 2025).

Design elements: We also made some changes to our design in order to make it fit with the Twitter/X landscape as we want it to make an impact when people are scrolling in order to get their attention, which we will do by using relevant and large text and colour that stands out, such as orange. We know from our class discussions that using too much text on Twitter can decrease its effectiveness, so we must create a very concise and direct headline (Briscoe, Lecture, March 26, 2025).

When using emojis, we will actually look at the Twitter/X emoji tracker in order for us to look for the most used emojis or anything currently trending that is relevant to our content, message, and audience we want to reach. The reason why we will include emojis in our content is that it makes reading much easier, as humans process visuals much faster than text, which strengthens our messaging. After researching live emoji tracker, we learned that the basketball ๐Ÿ€ is ranked at #216 out of every emoji, making it viable, effective, and relevant to our content and social media platform (Briscoe, W12 – C – Social Media Content (W25).pdf, Slide 4).

            Content:

Posts must be 100 characters or smaller

We know from class discussions that character length is important to consider for each platform, and the more text-based content we have decreases the chances that people will stay and read what we have to say. We specifically chose a 100-character limit for our content as we know from class research that it is found to be more effective for Twitter/X users for both reading and processing information (Briscoe, Lecture, March 26, 2025).

A post that is enticing and engaging through a motivational and inspiring tone of voice and use of emojis for interest. Through class discussion, we are aware that when creating content for social media that it must be consistent with our brand voice, but we can use different tones on some social media as it can make our messaging more effective for what we hope to accomplish (Briscoe, Lecture, January 22, 2025).

            Key elements:

  • Content is short and catchy, catering to usersโ€™ Twitter/X content preference
  • Use of effective and relevant hashtags
  • Relevant basketball emoji to make text stand out
