Headline #1: 5 Reasons St. Clair College Advertising Program is Your Future! (Overview):

  • Too Generic: For this headline, I found that it was too generic. This headline was not very unique, and it didn’t really stand out or resonate as well. It was also too common. There is so many different headlines out there that share a big similarity with this one, so I feel like if this headline was used, it wouldn’t capture the attention and interest of the reader. It would need to be more unique for it to stand out from all the other headlines out there. [i]
  • Doesn’t Evoke Curiosity: Another thing about this headline is that it doesn’t evoke curiosity. Based on what was discussed in class, an important element of a headline is that it should evoke a feeling of curiosity. When looking at this headline it doesn’t make you feel very curious, it doesn’t make you want to click on it and seek out more information about the topic that it focuses on, I feel like if this headline wasn’t so generic, it would be able to better arise the curiosity of people.[ii]

Headline #2: Launch Your Ad Career At St. Clair! Apply Now For 2025! (Overview):

  • Address A Problem: For this headline, I believe that one thing it accomplished is that it addressed a problem. For example, a graduating high school student who may be interested in pursuing a career in advertising may find that this headline resonates with them, especially since it is calling them to do something.[iii]

Headline #3: Dream in Ads? St Clair Can Make It Real – Apply Now! (Overview):

  • The Question Gives an Obvious Answer: One thing I noticed about this headline is that it answers the question that is being asked in the headline. As discussed in class an important thing about using a headline that is asking a question is that it should be giving an obvious answer to that question. For example, this headline lets the reader know that if they are thinking about a career in advertising St. Clair can make that happen.[iv]

It Promises Something: While analyzing this headline, something that I noticed is that it promises something. In particular, this headline is promising that if you are looking to pursue a successful career in advertising, St. Clair is the place to look, while at the same time, it is also encouraging you to look further, such as how applying for the advertising program can help be beneficial to you if you are looking on pursuing an advertising career.. Overall, this is just something else that I noticed while analyzing this headline.[v]
